At least four fatalities and 61 injuries have been reported, with over 40 individuals feared trapped beneath a massive billboard that collapsed during heavy rains in Mumbai on Monday. The incident occurred in the eastern suburb of Ghatkopar, where gusty winds accompanied the downpour, leading to the collapse of the billboard onto nearby houses and a petrol pump.

A large-scale rescue operation is currently underway, with multiple agencies, including fire services, police, disaster response teams, and municipal authorities, mobilized to assist in the efforts. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, responsible for the city's administration, has confirmed the ongoing rescue mission.

Videos circulating on news channels and social media platforms depict the towering billboard swaying precariously in the wind before plummeting to the ground, causing significant destruction upon impact.

According to forecasts from the local weather department, moderate to heavy rainfall with gusty winds of 40-50 kilometers per hour were anticipated in parts of Mumbai district on the fateful day.

The incident also led to temporary disruptions in flight operations at Mumbai airport, with reports of 15 flight diversions and a suspension of operations for over an hour due to adverse weather conditions.

Mumbai, like many other Indian cities, grapples with the challenges of severe flooding and rain-related accidents during the monsoon season, which typically spans from June to September annually.
