Torrential rain and tornadoes have wreaked havoc across the Southern US, resulting in three fatalities and widespread chaos. Forecasters have issued warnings of dangerous storms sweeping through parts of the region, following the previous day's onslaught that produced damaging tornadoes and massive hail, claiming two lives in Tennessee and one in North Carolina.
This latest bout of severe weather adds to a series of storms that have swept across the country this week, from the Plains to the Midwest and now the southeastern US. At least four people have lost their lives in storms since Monday.

The National Weather Service has continued to issue tornado warnings stretching past midnight in several states, including North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Missouri, and Kentucky. Additionally, parts of Arkansas and Mississippi have been placed under tornado watches through the pre-dawn hours.
In northeastern Tennessee, high winds toppled power lines and trees, resulting in one fatality when a 22-year-old man was struck by a falling tree while in his car. Another fatality occurred in Columbia, Tennessee, where a likely tornado touched down, causing significant damage to homes and injuries to residents.
The storms prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to implement a temporary ground stop at Nashville International Airport, while the National Weather Service issued a tornado emergency for areas south of the state's capital, including Chapel Hill and Eagleville.
In North Carolina, a state of emergency was declared for Gaston County following a storm that caused extensive damage, including downed power lines and fallen trees. Tragically, one person lost their life when a tree fell on their car.
These storms follow a pattern of severe weather earlier in the week, which saw tornadoes touching down in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. Michigan's Kalamazoo County was particularly hard hit, with a tornado tearing through the area, causing widespread destruction and leaving several injured.
Across the affected regions, communities are grappling with the aftermath of the storms, with homes destroyed, power outages, and injuries reported. The resilience of affected individuals shines through as they navigate the devastation and begin the process of recovery.
