2026 World Cup: New Jersey to Host Final at MetLife Stadium

The 2026 World Cup final is set to take place in New Jersey at MetLife Stadium, home to the National Football League's New York Giants and New York Jets, as announced by FIFA. The tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will conclude on July 19.

Host Cities and Games Allocation

Canada will host 13 games, with Toronto and Vancouver each hosting five group-stage matches. Mexico will also have 13 games, including 10 during the group stage in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey. The remainder of the tournament will unfold across 11 cities in the United States.

Toronto, Mexico City, and Los Angeles will host the opening matches for their respective national teams. The final at MetLife Stadium, with a capacity of 82,500, previously hosted the Copa America Centenario final in 2016.

Historic Moments at Estadio Azteca

Mexico City's Estadio Azteca will kick off the tournament on June 11, marking Mexico's third time hosting the World Cup. The historic venue witnessed iconic moments in 1970 and 1986, including Pele's Brazil triumph and Diego Maradona's memorable performances.

Home Advantage for Hosts

During the group stage, each host nation will play on home soil. The United States will stick to the West Coast, Canada will split their games between Toronto and Vancouver, and Mexico will feature twice at Estadio Azteca and once in Guadalajara.

Tournament Progression and Expanded Format

The knockout rounds will entirely shift to the United States from the quarter-finals onward. Los Angeles, Kansas City, Miami, and Boston will host the quarter-final matches. Dallas and Atlanta are chosen as semi-final venues, while Miami will host the third-place playoff. Philadelphia will mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with a Round of 16 match on July 4.

The expanded 2026 World Cup will feature 104 matches, incorporating an additional knockout round due to the expansion to 48 teams from the traditional 32. FIFA has organized the venues into three regions — east, central, and west — to accommodate the vast distances and diverse climates across the 16 host cities.
