Tabreed, a leading district cooling services provider in the UAE, has undertaken a remarkable initiative by transforming its plant on Al Maryah Island into a captivating 3D mural, showcasing the indigenous wildlife of the region. This artistic endeavor reflects the company's commitment to celebrating the natural beauty of the UAE while also adding aesthetic value to its infrastructure.
The Al Maryah Island plant, which serves a diverse clientele including prominent establishments like the Cleveland Clinic, Rosewood Abu Dhabi, Four Seasons, Galleria Mall, and Abu Dhabi Global Market, was identified as an ideal canvas for this innovative project. Leveraging Abu Dhabi's growing reputation for outstanding artworks, Tabreed's Strategic Communications department collaborated with local artists to solicit design proposals for the mural.
After careful consideration, the renowned Emirati artist, Saggaf Alhashmi, was selected for his visionary 3D concept featuring two iconic UAE species: the Arabian Oryx and Arabian Sand Gazelle. This choice resonates deeply with the local environment, paying homage to the rich biodiversity of the region.

Khaled Al Qubaisi, Chairman of Tabreed, expressed his delight with the outcome, describing the transformation of the plant as extraordinary. The fusion of functionality and artistic expression, with the mural seamlessly integrated into the cooling infrastructure, underscores Tabreed's commitment to both aesthetics and efficiency.
Alhashmi, the artist behind the mural, drew inspiration from the name "Al Maryah," derived from a renowned oasis region in Abu Dhabi. He envisioned bringing the essence of this oasis, symbolized by the Arabian deer species, to Al Maryah Island through his artwork. This thoughtful connection between past and present, nature and urban development, adds layers of significance to the mural.
The execution of the project was no small feat, involving the coordinated efforts of six artists and three boom cranes working at a height of 35 meters above ground. Over 7,140 louvred panels were meticulously painted, covering an area of 7.2 square kilometers. The meticulous attention to detail, with 52 different colors used to recreate Alhashmi's vision, speaks volumes about the dedication and skill of the artists involved.
Completing the project ahead of schedule on April 20th, Tabreed's initiative not only enhances the visual appeal of Al Maryah Island but also underscores its commitment to environmental stewardship. Beyond mitigating carbon emissions through sustainable cooling solutions, Tabreed is setting a precedent for integrating art and architecture to enhance urban landscapes and enrich the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. As Chairman, Al Qubaisi takes pride in Tabreed's pioneering spirit and its ongoing efforts to remain at the forefront of innovation in district cooling.
