In an unusual incident at Dallas Fort Worth Airport in the United States, powerful winds pushed an American Airlines Boeing 737-800 away from the gate. Footage shows the 90,000-pound aircraft being moved by 80 mph gusts after the loading bridge was disconnected, causing the plane's nose to swing around the tarmac.
American Airlines confirmed that this aircraft was one of several impacted by the strong winds, which led the airport to ground up to 700 planes. Fortunately, the plane was empty at the time. A representative from the airline stated, "Maintenance personnel are currently conducting thorough inspections and will make any needed repairs."
The video of the incident has gone viral, attracting numerous reactions on social media. One user commented, "Looks like strong winds captured by the tail fin of this @AmericanAir plane, acting like a sail to push it away from the gate. Unknown if there was something missing to prevent the wheels from moving." Another remarked, "*Boeing execs, nervously*: Yeah, it was the weather. Not the plane. Definitely not the plane."

A third user expressed disbelief, "Yoh! Despite these scary aviation stories, we keep flying. What can we do?" Others chimed in with comments like "This is insane," and "Wow. That storm really was something else." One person noted, "It was windy in the Dallas area today, but I didn't realize it was this level crazy."

An American Airlines Boeing 737-800 pushed away from its gate at Dallas International Airport due to strong gusts of up to 77 mph / 124 kmh, according to National Weather Service. #weather #WeatherAlert #Aviation pic.twitter.com/4WNFhwu4Sd
The same high winds that moved the aircraft also caused significant damage in the area. A large commercial warehouse near the airport had its roof crushed by the storm. On Tuesday morning, as the severe winds hit Texas and neighboring states, nearly 90 percent of departures from D-FW airport were delayed or canceled.
The storm's impact extended beyond the airport. At least one person was killed, and more than 600,000 people in Texas were left without power. This severe weather event added to the woes of a state already grappling with recent damaging and deadly storms.
