The toll from devastating floods sweeping across large swathes of southern Germany has tragically climbed to six lives lost, authorities confirmed on Wednesday. The latest victim, a 79-year-old woman who had been reported missing since the weekend, was discovered in a canal in Bavaria.

The elderly woman had last been seen riding her bicycle in Jettingen-Scheppach, near Augsburg, on Sunday. Her absence prompted concern among locals, leading to a search effort. Regrettably, her body was located in a canal on Wednesday, marking another somber casualty of the flood disaster.

The region has been grappling with relentless downpours, causing widespread flooding over the weekend. Although the situation has somewhat abated in southwestern Germany, the Danube River's water levels, particularly in eastern Bavaria, are slowly starting to decline.

Amidst the chaos, four individuals lost their lives in the initial deluge, with three fatalities occurring in flooded basements. Tragically, on Tuesday, authorities recovered the body of a fifth victim, a driver whose vehicle had been submerged in floodwaters.

As communities grapple with the aftermath of this natural disaster, the recovery efforts remain ongoing, with authorities working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of affected residents.
