Southampton football club has sacked manager Russell Martin after they suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat to Tottenham at home on Sunday. The club announced in a statement, saying they had made the "difficult decision to part ways" with Martin after his team won only one of their last 16 matches.

The statement from the club explained that they knew the team would face challenges this season after moving up to the Premier League. Simon Rusk, who is currently the Under-21s manager, will take over the team on an interim basis while the club looks for a permanent replacement for Martin.
The loss to Tottenham was a tough one for Southampton, as they conceded five goals in the first half. After the match, Martin admitted that he was hurt by the performance of his team.
