South Africa has announced its squad for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, with Aiden Markram set to lead the team for the first time in an ICC event. The Proteas have included notable players such as Anrich Nortje and Quinton de Kock, despite their recent exclusion from Cricket South Africa's central contract list. Nortje, recovering from a back injury since September 2023, returns to the international scene, while De Kock, who retired from ODIs post the 2023 Cricket World Cup, remains a vital asset.
The squad features two uncapped T20I players, Ryan Rickelton and Ottniel Baartman, both of whom impressed in the recent SA20 tournament. Rickelton emerged as the leading run-scorer with 530 runs, while Baartman showcased his prowess with 18 wickets. Alongside the youth, the team boasts a strong batting lineup comprising Markram, De Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, and the promising Tristan Stubbs.

In the bowling department, the pace attack will be spearheaded by Kagiso Rabada and Nortje, supported by Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee. The spin duties will be handled by Bjorn Fortuin, Keshav Maharaj, and Tabraiz Shamsi.
Coach Rob Walter expressed the difficulty in selecting the squad given the impressive performances by the players in recent T20 matches. He commended the selection of the uncapped players and expressed confidence in the team's strength. The Proteas are scheduled to kick off their T20 World Cup campaign on 3 June against Sri Lanka in New York.
The squad includes travelling reserves Nandre Burger and Lungi Ngidi. Teams have until 25 May to make changes to their squad, with any alterations requiring approval from the ICC's Event Technical Committee.
