The films are being directed by Sam Mendes, an Academy Award-winning filmmaker known for movies like American Beauty and 1917. He revealed the cast during the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas, where movie industry professionals gathered to hear about upcoming projects.
The actors who will bring the Fab Four to life include Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. Each of these actors has made a name for themselves in Hollywood. Mescal starred in Gladiator II and Aftersun, while Keoghan gained fame for The Banshees of Inisherin. Dickinson is known for Babygirl, and Quinn is recognized for his role in Stranger Things.
Mendes explained that while The Beatles’ journey to stardom has been widely documented, there are still many untold stories. He promised that the films would give audiences fresh insights into the band's history.
The four movies will be released close to each other in April 2028, making it a unique event for moviegoers. Sony executive Tom Rothman called it "the first bingeable theatrical experience," meaning that audiences can watch multiple films back-to-back, similar to how people binge-watch TV series at home. Mendes added that the goal is to create a major cinematic event that will encourage people to return to theaters.
To generate excitement, the four lead actors appeared on stage at CinemaCon dressed in matching black outfits. They bowed together, recreating a signature move from The Beatles' live performances.
Sony has officially titled the project The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event, with Rothman confidently stating, "We are going to dominate the culture that month."
The ambitious film series aims to capture the magic of one of the most famous bands in music history, giving fans a deeper look at the men behind the music.
