This will be Egypt’s fourth time participating in the G20 summits, with the first being in China in 2016, the second in Japan in 2019, and the third in India in 2023, according to Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy.
This shows the growing recognition of Egypt’s important role and its central position in the region, Fahmy added.
The summit, which is held under the theme “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,” will focus on several key issues that are important to developing countries. These include social inclusion, the fight against poverty and hunger, reforming global governance institutions, and energy transition within the framework of sustainable development, according to the presidency spokesman.
President Sisi will deliver Egypt’s statements at the summit, discussing the country’s development efforts, the challenges faced by developing countries in achieving sustainable development goals, and the global political and economic instability.
He will also reaffirm Egypt’s commitment to prioritizing solidarity and increased cooperation in addressing these challenges, Fahmy said.
In his speeches, President Sisi will focus on regional issues, especially the ongoing crisis and instability in the Middle East, particularly the ongoing Israeli escalation in Palestine and Lebanon. He will highlight Egypt’s efforts to restore stability in the region.
The summit will also officially launch the “Global Alliance to Combat Poverty and Hunger,” an international initiative led by Brazil during its G20 presidency.
This alliance aims to promote social inclusion and end poverty and hunger by mobilizing financial resources and expertise to speed up global efforts toward achieving these important Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
During the G20 summit, President Sisi is expected to meet with several world leaders to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations, enhance international cooperation to achieve SDGs, and work towards restoring peace and regional security, in line with the aspirations of the region’s people for prosperity and development, Fahmy added.
