Sheikh Mohamed Announces $30M Aid for Displaced Lebanese Citizens in Syria

\In response to the ongoing crisis in Lebanon, President Sheikh Mohamed has directed $30 million in aid to support displaced Lebanese citizens in Syria. This initiative is part of a broader humanitarian campaign aimed at assisting civilians as the country continues to endure Israeli attacks. According to the United Nations, over 200,000 Lebanese have fled across the border into Syria due to the escalating violence, particularly amidst the recent Israeli air strikes.

In addition to the financial aid, the UAE has sent six planes carrying 205 tonnes of humanitarian supplies to aid civilians in Lebanon. This assistance comes alongside a nationwide charitable campaign launched by the UAE to support the Lebanese population during this challenging time.

The human toll of the conflict has been significant, with reports indicating that more than 2,000 people have been killed in Lebanon since October 8, 2023. Alarmingly, more than half of these casualties have occurred in the past two weeks alone. The Lebanese government estimates that around one million people have been displaced as a result of the ongoing hostilities.

The aid directed to displaced Lebanese citizens in Syria is part of the UAE's "continued efforts to help the Lebanese people overcome current challenges," as stated by the UAE's. Furthermore, a philanthropic campaign aimed at showing solidarity with the Lebanese people is set to commence on Tuesday, announced by the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council. This campaign follows the UAE's previous relief initiatives.

The "UAE Stands with Lebanon" drive, initiated under Sheikh Mohamed’s directives, will provide a comprehensive humanitarian relief package worth $100 million to the country. This campaign aims to engage the community, including businesses, in collective efforts to support the Lebanese populace.

Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed, Chairman of the Office of Development and Martyrs Families Affairs and the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council, emphasized that this approach reflects the UAE's civilizational and humane vision for a safe and stable world. He reiterated that the UAE—encompassing its government, citizens, residents, and businesses—remains committed to providing relief and assistance to those facing adverse circumstances, working closely with international organizations and institutions to deliver effective aid.
