New Delhi — Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, will commence an official visit to India on Sunday. His visit aims to deepen economic relations between the UAE and India, with a primary focus on enhancing collaboration across key economic sectors.

During his visit, Sheikh Khaled will hold discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The agenda will center on strengthening the economic ties between the two nations, with significant emphasis on bilateral cooperation and investment.

Sheikh Khaled, who is also the chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, will be accompanied by a high-profile delegation that includes ministers, senior officials, business leaders, and key economic partners from the UAE. The visit is expected to include several events designed to showcase the robust and growing relationship between the UAE and India.

Earlier this week, Sheikh Khaled participated in the inauguration of the first international campus of India’s prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Abu Dhabi. This initiative is seen as a crucial step in developing the skills of young talent in the UAE. During the event, Sheikh Khaled witnessed the signing of several agreements between Abu Dhabi IIT and leading universities in the emirate, reflecting the commitment to advancing educational and technological partnerships.

The visit aligns with the UAE-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which was enacted in February 2022. This agreement aims to bolster economic ties between the two countries and foster greater collaboration in various sectors. The CEPA underscores the ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral trade, investment, and infrastructure development.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the UAE in February included the inauguration of the Baps Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi and the signing of a pact to expand cooperation in digital infrastructure. Earlier, in January, President Sheikh Mohamed of the UAE visited India and participated in the Vibrant Gujarat business summit, further strengthening bilateral relations.

WAM, the state news agency, highlighted that Sheikh Khaled’s visit represents a significant milestone in the evolving UAE-India partnership. This relationship has become a model of constructive cooperation, particularly in areas such as economic development, investment, trade, climate action, and global stability.

The historical ties between the UAE and India date back to January 1975, when the UAE’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, made a landmark visit to India. This visit saw the signing of a Cultural Agreement, which remains a cornerstone for fostering cultural exchanges between the two nations. Sheikh Zayed’s subsequent visit in April 1992 resulted in an agreement to avoid double taxation, further solidifying the economic relationship.

The visit of President Sheikh Mohamed in January 2017 marked a pivotal moment in bilateral relations, with the signing of the CEPA and 13 additional agreements across various fields. This ongoing engagement underscores the enduring and dynamic nature of UAE-India relations, which continue to evolve and strengthen through high-level interactions and collaborative initiatives.
