Sharjah Ruler Leads Board of Trustees Meeting for University of Kalba

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Kalba, chaired a meeting of the Board of Trustees at the university's headquarters on Thursday. During the meeting, His Highness emphasized the importance of preserving and enhancing the university's effectiveness through ongoing monitoring and follow-up to ensure academic discipline and commitment.

Sheikh Dr. Sultan praised the achievements of the University of Kalba over the past period, highlighting the collaborative efforts of the Board of Trustees, faculty, administrative staff, and students. He underscored the need to better prepare male and female students from schools for their university studies by enhancing the educational process, updating curricula, and providing a suitable learning environment that includes well-equipped facilities.

Discussions also centered on the necessity of conducting benchmarking and reviewing best practices to elevate the quality of education at the university. His Highness reiterated the importance of university education in shaping a disciplined and morally upright generation capable of contributing positively to society.

The agenda covered various topics related to the establishment and development of educational facilities and oversight of academic operations at the university. The Board approved the appointment of Dr. Hassan Salim as the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and also sanctioned the annual budget aimed at developing curricula and facilities that would create a stimulating academic and training atmosphere for students.

A significant highlight was the approval of the EmSAT Centre at the University of Kalba, designed to accommodate students who face challenges in securing seats for EmSAT examinations. This center will feature 103 computers equipped to meet the highest technical and educational standards.

The Board also agreed to update the university’s admission requirements and reviewed reports from various committees, including academic, financial, compliance, and internal audit committees. Recommendations aimed at accelerating scientific and academic progress and enhancing various aspects of university operations were also discussed.

Furthermore, the Chancellor of the University of Kalba, Dr. Najwa Al Hosani, presented a report detailing the university's progress, achievements, and updates to its facilities. She highlighted ongoing development plans, including the construction of a sports complex and training grounds designed to the highest standards for the College of Physical Education, along with improvements to service buildings and interior designs for faculty housing.

Following the Board meeting, His Highness engaged with the deans of the colleges and members of the teaching staff. He also toured the newly established facilities at the university, including a food court that serves a variety of food and snacks, equipped with seating for 70 people and spaces designated for studying and collaboration on academic projects.

The meeting was attended by notable figures, including Dr. Abdulaziz Saeed bin Butti Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Sharjah Health Authority; Abdullah Ibrahim Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Human Resources; Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council; Ali Ahmed Al Hosani, Director of the Sharjah Private Education Authority; Dr. Sulaiman bin Sarhan Al Zaabi, former Chairman of the Department of Municipalities Affairs; Dr. Abdullah Saleh Al Suwaiji, Executive Director of the Higher Colleges of Technology in Fujairah; Dr. Maryam Salem Al Marashda, former Dean of Student Affairs at the United Arab Emirates University; Dr. Justin O’Connor, Associate Professor of Physical Education at Monash University in Australia; Faisal Jassim Al Midfa, Head of Business Finance at Sharjah Islamic Bank; Aisha Redha Al Bayraq, former member of the Federal National Council; Bashayer Hassan Al Mansouri, Director of the Public Works Department branch in Kalba City; and Dr. Najwa Al Hosani, Chancellor of the University of Kalba.
