Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) is preparing to welcome students with disabilities to its newly completed facilities in Al Badeea, Al Barashi, for the 2024-2025 academic year. This development marks the completion of the initial phase of a significant project, which is backed by H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi and aligns with the initiatives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The first phase of the project includes several key components: the General Administration, Al Wafa School for Capacity Development (covering Yarmouk and Ramla), the Severe Disabilities Centre (operating during the evening), and the Sharjah Autism Centre. The design of these facilities emphasizes innovation and environmental sustainability, following global best practices to ensure an inclusive and accessible environment for all users.
Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of SCHS, commended the collective efforts involved in this initiative, underscoring it as a testament to Sheikh Sultan's visionary leadership. She highlighted the first phase as a significant step in SCHS's ongoing commitment to providing high-quality services and fostering strong partnerships. The city is recognized for its leadership in supporting individuals with disabilities, with plans to develop a comprehensive complex in future phases to enhance these efforts further.

Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, Director-General of SCHS, mentioned that the first phase occupies 100,000 square meters of a 575,000-square-meter plot donated by the Ruler of Sharjah. This phase addresses the increasing demand for such services and incorporates future needs, aligning with international best practices in education and rehabilitation.
The second phase of the project will introduce 14 additional buildings, including vital facilities such as a sports complex, a mosque, and a treatment center. The total cost for the first phase's construction and operational expenses is approximately AED 173 million. Funding contributions include AED 80 million from the UAE President, AED 30 million from the Bank of Sharjah, and about AED 63 million covered by the city for construction, consulting, and furnishing the facilities.
The new complex features several essential facilities, including an administration building and a library equipped with state-of-the-art inclusive and accessible resources and technologies. The educational buildings for the Sharjah Autism Centre and Al Wafa School are designed to provide specialized educational and rehabilitation services for students with intellectual disabilities. The complex also includes classrooms, life skills development rooms, treatment rooms, and open areas for play and outdoor activities, catering to various ages and community groups.
