Mohammed Shami didn't hold back his criticism of Sanjiv Goenka's animated conversation with KL Rahul following Lucknow Super Giants' loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad. The match concluded on a bitter note for the Super Giants, not just due to the 10-wicket defeat but also the controversy sparked by the post-match exchange. LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka was observed having an intense conversation with captain KL Rahul after the match, seemingly expressing his dissatisfaction with the outcome. Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down the 166-run target in just 9.4 overs, setting a new IPL record for the fastest run-chase (with a target minimum of 100).
The conversation unfolded on the field, with KL Rahul's expressions conveying disappointment. It appeared that Goenka was venting his frustration at the team's performance, drawing criticism online. Many voiced their disapproval of Goenka's behavior, particularly for reprimanding his captain in front of the cameras. India's star pacer Mohammed Shami, currently sidelined due to injury, also stood in solidarity with his teammate following the incident.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Shami condemned Goenka's actions, emphasizing that he disrespected Rahul, calling it a "shame."
“Players have respect, and as an owner, you're expected to uphold that respect. Many people are watching and learning from you. When such incidents occur in front of cameras… it's a matter of shame,” Shami expressed.
“If you had to express your displeasure, there are more appropriate settings, such as the dressing room or the team hotel. Doing it on the field wasn't necessary. Reacting this way isn't like hoisting a flag at the Red Fort,” Shami added, stressing on the magnitude of Goenka's actions.
Conveying a Wrong Message
Shami further supported Rahul, asserting that anything can happen in sports, and publicly admonishing the captain is inappropriate.
“He's not just a player; he's the captain. It's a team sport, and setbacks are part of the game. Every player deserves respect, and there's a proper way to address issues. This sends out the wrong message,” Shami emphasized.
The defeat against SRH complicates the Super Giants' path to the playoffs. With six wins and as many losses, the team currently stands sixth in the table. They face tough competition from teams like Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore, who have won four consecutive matches.
