In a recent op-ed, Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, emphasized the urgent need for a two-state solution to resolve the long-standing conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. He asserted that establishing an independent Palestinian state is essential for achieving enduring peace in the region, stating, “Palestinian statehood is a prerequisite for peace, rather than its by-product.”
Prince Faisal articulated that the path to this resolution must be irreversible, leading to two sovereign states where both peoples can coexist peacefully. He reiterated the Kingdom's commitment to tirelessly advocate for Palestinian independence, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and affirmed that Saudi Arabia will not establish diplomatic relations with Israel until this goal is realized. This position reflects the Saudi leadership's consistent stance on the matter, recently echoed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The Foreign Minister argued that the primary obstacles to peace are not the Palestinian and Israeli peoples, who yearn for stability, but rather the extremists on both sides who perpetuate conflict and reject a fair resolution. He called for the voices of moderation to prevail and urged the international community to support Palestinian self-determination.

In light of escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, as well as an Iranian missile strike against Israel, Prince Faisal underscored the necessity for accountability in the quest for peace. He stated that global recognition of Palestine as a sovereign state is vital, urging nations that privately support this recognition to declare it publicly.
Highlighting the dire conditions in Gaza and the West Bank, he noted that Israeli actions, including settlement expansions and movement restrictions, undermine the prospects for a viable Palestinian state. He pointed out that such intransigence only serves to heighten tensions and prolong suffering, making diplomatic negotiations increasingly challenging.
Prince Faisal also called for strengthening the Palestinian Authority (PA), which he commended for its commitment to non-violence and cooperation amid numerous challenges. He stressed that any lasting resolution requires both Gaza and the West Bank to be under PA control.
In conclusion, he reiterated that achieving Palestinian statehood is crucial for breaking the cycle of violence and fostering a future where Israelis and Palestinians can live in security and mutual respect. "Let us not delay any longer," he urged, highlighting the urgency of addressing this critical issue
