In a powerful address at a summit of Muslim and Arab leaders on Monday, Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman strongly condemned Israel's actions against Palestinians, labeling them as "genocide." The crown prince's remarks reiterated earlier statements made by Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud in late September.
"The Kingdom renews its condemnation and categorical rejection of the genocide committed by Israel against the brotherly Palestinian people," the Crown Prince said, underscoring Saudi Arabia's long-standing position on the issue. His remarks come amid continued violence between Israel and Gaza, where Israel's military actions have resulted in widespread casualties and displacement among Palestinians.
In addition to condemning Israel’s actions, the crown prince also called on the international community to intervene, particularly in regards to Israel’s military actions towards Iran. He urged for respect for Iran’s sovereignty, emphasizing the need for diplomacy and peaceful resolutions.

In a significant political statement, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reaffirmed that Saudi Arabia would not consider recognizing Israel unless a Palestinian state was established. This stance had been made clear earlier in September, when the crown prince stated that the kingdom’s recognition of Israel was contingent upon the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
Saudi Arabia had previously engaged in discussions with the U.S. administration under President Joe Biden regarding a potential normalization agreement with Israel. This agreement, which was being brokered with the promise of U.S. security guarantees and additional bilateral deals, faced setbacks following the violent escalation in October 2023. The attack on Israel by Hamas militants from Gaza, followed by Israel's retaliatory actions, put the normalization efforts on hold.
At the Arab League summit, Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit also addressed the situation, mentioning that the summit’s concluding statement called for a freeze on Israel's membership in the United Nations General Assembly. Aboul Gheit noted that this decision could be reached through a majority vote in the UNGA, bypassing the Security Council's jurisdiction.
The summit's final statement also called for a global arms embargo on Israel, urging all countries to halt the export or transfer of weapons and ammunition to the country. The statement further demanded that the International Criminal Court (ICC) issue arrest warrants for Israeli military and civilian leaders involved in the ongoing assault on Gaza.
Over the past 13 months, Israel's military operations in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians and the displacement of nearly the entire population. The situation has triggered widespread humanitarian crises, including severe food shortages. The ongoing violence has led to numerous allegations of genocide, a claim that Israel denies, despite calls for investigations by international courts, including the World Court.
The situation remains volatile, with both regional leaders and international organizations calling for greater action to address the humanitarian impact and to seek a lasting resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
