Saudi Arabia has officially begun construction on The Mukaab, a groundbreaking cube-shaped structure poised to reach an impressive height of 400 meters, potentially making it the largest building in the world upon completion. Located in Riyadh, this monumental skyscraper will offer a staggering two million square meters of floor space, equivalent to approximately twenty times that of New York City's iconic Empire State Building.

The Mukaab is part of a larger urban development initiative known as New Murabba, which is projected to encompass over 25 million square meters of floor space and include plans for 104,000 homes. This ambitious project aims to create a vibrant urban hub that combines retail, corporate, and cultural experiences, positioning itself as a premier destination for both business and leisure.

Designed to be a “premium hospitality destination,” The Mukaab will feature a central atrium space that enhances the experience for visitors and residents. Its innovative and multifaceted design will cater to various sectors, ensuring it becomes a focal point for both local and international visitors alike.

Construction of The Mukaab is being overseen by the New Murabba Development Company (NMDC), which operates under Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF). This initiative is a vital part of the country's broader strategy to diversify its economy and invest in transformative infrastructure projects that can attract global attention.

While cube-shaped buildings are often seen as inefficient in terms of land use, Saudi Arabia is known for pushing architectural boundaries. The Kingdom has undertaken several ambitious projects in the past, including the Jeddah Tower, which was intended to be the world's tallest skyscraper but has remained unfinished since construction was halted in 2018. Another notable project, The Line, envisioned as a mirrored city stretching 170 kilometers across the desert, has also seen its plans significantly reduced to just 2.4 kilometers in length for the time being.

The vision for the New Murabba district is to create an environment that “seamlessly blends technology, innovation, and sustainability.” According to its official website, the development aspires to be a “center of progress, creativity, and entrepreneurship,” all while harmonizing with the beauty of nature and the authenticity of the local culture.
