Comedian Samay Raina has expressed regret over some remarks made on his web show "India's Got Latent". The show, which has now been deleted, stirred controversy, leading to Raina facing backlash. On Monday, he apologized and assured that he would be more careful in the future.

According to sources, Raina made his statement to the Maharashtra Cyber Cell, where he admitted that he had made a mistake. He apologized for the comments made during the show and clarified that he did not intend to say what he did. He explained that everything happened spontaneously during the live recording.

Raina promised to be more responsible moving forward, making sure that such incidents do not happen again.

Controversy Affected His Mental Health

The comedian also shared that the controversy has impacted his mental well-being. Sources revealed that his recent tour in Canada did not go as planned, adding to his stress. Raina, who recently returned from the tour, acknowledged his fault and said he was genuinely sorry.

On Monday, Raina appeared before the Maharashtra Cyber Cell at their office in Mhape. He was questioned for over five hours as part of the investigation. It was also reported that the agency had summoned him multiple times earlier regarding the case.

The February Incident

The controversy began in February when podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia made certain remarks about parents and sex on Raina’s show. The comments sparked public outrage and led to a major political debate in Maharashtra. Several political leaders, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and opposition leaders, condemned the remarks. They accused Allahbadia and the show of misusing freedom of speech.

The matter was even raised in Parliament, where Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske demanded a law to regulate content on social media. Following the backlash, multiple FIRs were filed against Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, and others involved with the show. The National Commission for Women (NCW) also summoned them for questioning.

Legal Action and Tour Cancellations

In the aftermath of the controversy, Raina decided to delete the show and rescheduled his India comedy tour. His performances in Gujarat were also reportedly canceled in February due to the public outrage.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court granted interim protection from arrest to Ranveer Allahbadia but criticized his remarks. The court called his comments "vulgar" and accused him of having a "dirty mind" that brought shame to society.

Apart from Raina and Allahbadia, YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani and comedians Jaspreet Singh and Apoorva Makhija were also named in FIRs filed by the Guwahati Police and Maharashtra Police's Cyber Cell.

Raina’s apology and his pledge to be more mindful in the future come as he deals with the fallout of the controversy.
