Saiyaara Wins Popular Choice at Yellowstone Film Fest 2025

Saiyaara, one of the highest-grossing romantic films in Indian cinema, has been honored with the Popular Choice Award at the Yellowstone International Film Festival 2025. The musical romantic drama, starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, collected nearly ₹570 crore worldwide since its release on July 18. The film was directed by Mohit Suri under the banner of Yash Raj Films (YRF).

Mohit Suri Reflects on His Journey

Director Mohit Suri, known for hits like Aashiqui 2 and Kalyug, described this recognition as particularly special, marking his first award in a 20-year career. He recalled watching the iconic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge as a child, a moment that inspired him to become a filmmaker.

Speaking at the award ceremony in Mumbai, Suri expressed gratitude to YRF CEO Akshaye Widhani for supporting his vision. “Akshaye, I wouldn’t be here without you,” Suri said. He also remembered pitching the Saiyaara script to YRF chairman Aditya Chopra and Widhani, who immediately greenlit the project.

The film’s title track achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Hindi song to enter the Billboard Top 10 worldwide, further cementing its global appeal. With its commercial triumph, many have compared the debut of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda to the launch of Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel in Kaho Na Pyaar Hai (2000).

YRF CEO Akshaye Widhani praised Suri’s work, stating, “I think the film, being the highest-grossing love story of all time, is a testament and a moment that makes us really proud. Mohit has done an exceptional job. This award is for the entire cast and crew that worked tirelessly to make this film what it is.”

With critical acclaim, massive box-office success, and international recognition, Saiyaara continues to leave a lasting mark on contemporary Indian cinema, setting new standards for romantic storytelling on screen.
