Kyiv experienced a large-scale drone and missile strike early Friday as Russian forces targeted residential and public buildings across the Ukrainian capital. The attacks resulted in 11 injuries, with four people hospitalized, including a pregnant woman and one individual in serious condition, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

Officials reported that the attacks damaged high-rise apartment buildings, a school, medical facilities, and administrative structures across multiple districts of the city, which has a population of approximately three million. Fires erupted in several locations, prompting emergency crews to respond swiftly.

“The Russians are hitting residential buildings. There are many damaged multi-storey apartment buildings in practically every district,” Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, wrote on Telegram.

Damage Across the City

The Dniprovskyi district east of the Dnipro River suffered significant damage, with three high-rise residential buildings affected. Nine residents were evacuated from one building that caught fire. In the Desnyanskyi district, two buildings sustained damage, while five more were affected in the historic Podil district. The strikes also disrupted the city’s heating system in one district, with potential interruptions to power and water services.

Social media footage showed flames engulfing buildings and residents gathering in streets filled with debris. Authorities confirmed that emergency teams were actively working to control the fires and evacuate affected residents.

Broader Implications

Ukraine’s air force reported that Russian drones and guided bombs were also targeting several other regions, indicating a coordinated escalation of attacks. The Kyiv regional governor noted that fires and injuries were reported in areas outside the city as well.

The attacks highlight the ongoing threat to civilians and critical infrastructure in Kyiv, raising concerns about the safety of residents and the city’s ability to maintain essential services amid continued hostilities.

As Ukrainian authorities continue emergency response and damage assessment, residents are being urged to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols. The incident underscores the persistent risk of civilian-targeted strikes in urban areas and the broader challenges facing Ukraine amid ongoing military aggression
