Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed significant traffic enhancements on Umm Suqeim Street, marked by the opening of a new 500-metre street leading directly to Kings' School. This new road features two lanes in each direction and connects the school's entrances to a newly constructed detour, greatly improving the flow of vehicles entering and exiting the school grounds. As a result, traffic congestion in the area has been reduced by up to 40% during peak hours.
These upgrades are part of RTA’s Quick Traffic Improvement Plan 2024, which aims to enhance the overall road network, ease traffic flow, and increase road capacity to keep pace with Dubai's rapid growth. The project also aims to improve traffic safety, particularly for school transport and parents.

Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at the Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA, explained, "These improvements are a key component of the Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project, which spans 4.6 km from the Al Khail Road intersection to the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road intersection. The project is designed to bolster connectivity among four major traffic corridors in Dubai: Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road. With these enhancements, the street’s capacity will increase by 30%, allowing it to accommodate up to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions."
In addition to the road enhancements, RTA has introduced 200 temporary parking slots to serve school-goers, including teachers and parents, for the 2024-2025 academic year. This measure is intended to facilitate orderly parking and reduce congestion caused by random parking. By improving parking conditions, the RTA aims to uphold high traffic safety standards and enhance public satisfaction, contributing to Dubai's reputation as an ideal city for living.
Al Shehhi concluded, "These steps are crucial for ensuring smooth traffic flow and safety in the area, aligning with our goal of making Dubai the best city to live in globally."
