RTA Enhances Mobility in Hatta with New Cycling and Walking Tracks
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently completed a significant infrastructure project in Hatta, expanding dedicated tracks for bicycles and e-scooters by 4.5 km. This initiative also included the addition of two rest areas along the new tracks, effectively increasing the total length of tracks in Hatta by 50% to 13.5 km. Additionally, RTA has finalized a 2.2 km walking track adjacent to the cycling paths.
The primary goal of this project is to provide sustainable mobility solutions, integrate various transportation options, develop inclusive infrastructure, and enhance individual mobility experiences across Dubai, specifically in Hatta.
As part of the project, RTA also completed the paving of a parking lot at Wadi Leem Lake, accommodating 135 vehicles. They further upgraded the existing gravel road connecting the parking lot to the main street with tiles that blend with Hatta’s natural environment. Additionally, new traffic signs and directional markers have been installed around entrances to Leem Lake and other key locations to improve navigation and ensure road user safety in Hatta.

Hussain Al Banna, CEO of RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency, emphasized the strategic importance of these enhancements, stating, “RTA’s strategy aims to implement a series of improvement projects that cater to the growing popularity of Hatta among residents and tourists. The area’s unique geographical and cultural diversity, coupled with its recreational offerings, make it a significant destination.”
He continued, “Investing in infrastructure development aligns with Dubai’s urban growth plans and supports our leaders’ vision. These soft mobility projects and traffic improvements are essential in areas like Hatta, which are witnessing increasing visitor traffic.”
Describing the layout and connectivity of the new cycling track, Al Banna noted, “The new track starts at the rear of Hatta Community Centre, crosses the existing pedestrian bridge at Leem Lake, and connects with the existing track in Wadi Hatta Park. It extends to the Hatta Guest House area, linking with the existing track at Hatta Police Roundabout, and continues up to Hatta Sports Club before branching into shared tracks near Almasiaf area.”
RTA’s broader goal includes encouraging the use of sustainable transport modes such as cycling and walking, thereby contributing to Dubai’s ambition to be a leading bicycle-friendly city.
Al Banna concluded, “RTA is committed to integrating soft mobility solutions in Hatta, connecting development projects and tourist attractions through non-traditional transport means. Our objective is to create an integrated transport network that includes cycling tracks, pedestrian paths, rest areas, shaded walkways, landscaping, and ample parking facilities.”
Recently, RTA also completed additional infrastructure projects in Hatta, including the construction of Hatta Souq Roundabout on Dubai-Hatta Road and a U-turn near Wadi Hub. These efforts aim to streamline traffic flow and enhance safety at key tourist sites in Hatta.
