In line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, to strengthen Dubai’s infrastructure and meet the city’s growth, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the award of a contract for the Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project. This significant initiative is also being overseen by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai. The contract, valued at AED 696.414 million, is a major step forward in enhancing the road network and accommodating the ongoing urban expansion.
The Trade Centre Roundabout is one of Dubai’s critical traffic junctions, serving as a link between Sheikh Zayed Road and five key roads: Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Rashid Street, 2nd December Street, Zabeel Palace Street, and Al Mustaqbal Street. The development project’s scope includes the construction of five bridges with a combined length of 5,000 meters and a transformation of the roundabout into a surface intersection. This restructuring is expected to streamline traffic from Sheikh Zayed Road to 2nd December Street and from Al Mustaqbal Street to Sheikh Zayed Road, enhancing traffic movement in both directions.

Once completed, the project will allow smooth traffic flows from 2nd December Street (serving the areas of Jumeirah and Al Satwa) to Al Majles Street, continuing onto Al Mustaqbal Street, which benefits critical zones such as the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). The project also aims to facilitate seamless traffic from Sheikh Rashid Street towards Deira and provide uninterrupted traffic on the upper-level bridge from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street.
According to His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, the Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project is a component of a larger plan, which also includes the upcoming Al Mustaqbal Street Development Project. Set to be awarded in November, this project will double the intersection’s capacity, significantly reducing delay times from 12 minutes to just 90 seconds. It will also cut down travel time from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street from six minutes to a mere one minute, transforming the traffic experience for commuters.
The upgraded roundabout will benefit several high-profile locations, including the DWTC, which has been a pivotal venue for international exhibitions and events such as GITEX, Arabian Travel Market, Arab Health, and Gulfood. Additionally, it serves DIFC, the premier financial hub for the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia region, alongside nearby communities like Zabeel, Al Satwa, Karama, Jafiliya, and Mankhool. Altogether, these enhancements are expected to benefit over half a million residents and visitors who rely on these routes.
Five Bridges in the Project
The project involves constructing five strategically designed bridges to support free-flowing traffic across various directions. These bridges include:
Concurrent Infrastructure Projects
In addition to the Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project, RTA is actively working on a range of infrastructure projects across Dubai. His Excellency Al Tayer noted that the DWTC Roundabout Development Project aligns with the recently awarded contract for Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets Development Project. This project includes the enhancement of four major intersections and the construction of bridges extending 4,300 meters, coupled with road extensions spanning 14 kilometers. It aims to improve connectivity in residential and new development areas projected to house over 420,000 residents by 2030. The improvements are expected to cut travel times from 20 minutes to five minutes and improve traffic flow by up to 75%.
Furthermore, the RTA is finalizing the Al Khail Road Development Project, which features the construction of bridges extending 3,300 meters and the expansion of lanes across seven different locations on Al Khail Road, with a combined lane expansion length of 6,820 meters. This project will help to reduce travel times by 30%, increasing the capacity of intersections and bridges by approximately 19,600 vehicles per hour.
Together, these projects underline Dubai’s commitment to developing its infrastructure to support economic growth and enhance the quality of life for its residents. By optimizing traffic flows and reducing delays, RTA’s initiatives will improve accessibility across the city, benefiting both residents and the economy.
