In Cairo, Saudi authorities have announced that registration for the Islamic practice of Itikaf, or seclusion, at the Grand Mosque in Mecca will commence next week during the holy month of Ramadan. The General Authority for Care of the Two Holy Mosques disclosed that starting from the 7th day of Ramadan, corresponding to Sunday, they will begin accepting registrations for Itikaf, which is observed during the last 10 days of the sacred month. The registration process will remain open until the designated spaces for Itikaf at the mosque are filled, although specific figures were not provided by the agency.
Registration will be conducted through the website of the state agency, emphasizing the importance of the procedure for ensuring a stable and spiritually conducive environment for worship. Applicants must meet certain criteria, including agreeing to abide by the pledges and regulations at the Grand Mosque, commencing Itikaf on the defined date of Ramadan 20, and being at least 18 years old.
Itikaf involves Muslims staying at a mosque solely for the purpose of worship and drawing closer to Allah, following the example of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). Typically performed during the final 10 days of the lunar month of Ramadan, which began in Saudi Arabia this year on March 11, Itikaf holds significant spiritual significance for believers.
Ramadan also signifies the peak season for Umrah, or minor pilgrimage, at the Grand Mosque. Throughout the month, worshippers from both within and outside the kingdom converge at the Grand Mosque, home to the Holy Kaaba, to engage in Umrah rituals and offer prayers.
Anticipating a surge in visitors, Saudi authorities have implemented various measures to facilitate worshippers' smooth and comfortable participation in religious rites. These initiatives aim to enhance the overall experience of worshippers during this auspicious time.
