Ramadan 2024: UAE's humanitarian drive hosts iftar for hundreds.

In a heartwarming display of communal solidarity, hundreds of individuals in the UAE congregated to partake in the breaking of their fast on the inaugural day of Ramadan. Gathered at iftar tents erected as part of a benevolent initiative aimed at fostering inclusivity and compassion within society, participants embraced the spirit of the holy month by sharing in the joyous tradition of communal dining.

This inaugural iftar event marked the commencement of Ramadan 1445 under the auspices of a community endeavor spearheaded by the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), the philanthropic arm of the UAE government. Acting Secretary General of the ERC, Rashid Al Mansouri, graced the occasion, joining fellow attendees in partaking of the first iftar meal of the season within the confines of a tent in Abu Dhabi.

Noteworthy in this year's iteration of the initiative was the introduction of women-only iftar tents, a testament to the ERC's commitment to inclusivity and gender equality. These designated spaces were strategically situated across various locations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Ajman, affirming the ERC's dedication to accommodating the diverse needs of the community.

Integral to the ERC's broader Ramadan campaign, the annual iftar project holds significance as a cornerstone of humanitarian efforts during the holy month. An embodiment of the UAE's ethos of giving, the ERC's Ramadan initiatives seek to extend assistance to vulnerable segments of society, both locally and globally.

In a remarkable demonstration of generosity, the ERC unveiled a Dh37.6 million ($10.2 million) Ramadan project aimed at providing essential support to families in need within the UAE and beyond. The Ramadan Continuous Giving Campaign, unveiled on Sunday, encompasses a multifaceted approach encompassing the provision of Eid clothing, Ramadan food parcels, and iftar meals. According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, the initiative is poised to benefit an estimated 1.8 million individuals within the UAE and 44 countries spanning Asia, Europe, and South America.

As the sun set on the first day of Ramadan, communities across the UAE ushered in the holy month with the traditional firing of Ramadan cannons, symbolizing the commencement of iftar. Resounding at various locales throughout the country, the reverberations of the cannons echoed the collective anticipation and reverence accompanying the onset of Ramadan.

In the capital city of Abu Dhabi, the resounding boom of the cannon marked the commencement of iftar festivities at the illustrious Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. A beacon of spiritual reverence, the mosque serves as a focal point for worshippers and visitors alike, symbolizing the convergence of faith and community during the holy month. With thousands expected to gather in prayer and fellowship, the firing of the cannon heralded the beginning of a month-long journey of spiritual reflection, communal solidarity, and compassionate giving.
