Putin emphasized that these countries are "sincerely making efforts" to address the conflict and indicated he is prepared to facilitate further negotiations if Ukraine is willing. His comments follow Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's significant visit to Ukraine, where he held discussions with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to Putin, "We respect our friends and partners, who, I believe, sincerely seek to resolve all issues surrounding this conflict, primarily China, Brazil, and India. I constantly keep in touch with our colleagues on this issue."
Additionally, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov highlighted that India could play a key role in facilitating dialogue on the Ukraine crisis. He noted the "highly constructive, even friendly relations" between Modi and Putin and suggested that Modi's communications with both Putin and Zelenskyy could positively influence the situation.
Peskov stated, "This provides an opportunity for India to leverage its influence in global affairs, potentially encouraging both the Americans and Ukrainians to engage more actively in the peace process." However, he clarified there are "no specific plans" for Modi to mediate directly at this time due to the lack of visible preconditions for immediate negotiations.
Prime Minister Modi's visit to Ukraine on August 23 was the first by an Indian Prime Minister since Ukraine's independence in 1991. During the visit, Modi urged both Russia and Ukraine to engage in direct talks and expressed India's readiness to play an active role in restoring peace. This visit followed Modi's summit with President Putin, which had raised concerns in Western countries.
