In a startling development, the Pune Crime Branch executed a dawn operation resulting in the arrest of two doctors and a mortuary staff member from the government-run Sassoon General Hospital. The accused, identified as Dr. Ajay Taware, head of the forensic sciences department, Dr. Shrihari Halnor, a casualty medical officer, and Atul Ghatkamble, a staffer from the mortuary, stand accused of a grave offense: tampering with blood samples related to a high-profile accident case involving a teenager.
The incident stems from a tragic accident on May 19, where a Porsche Taycan, driven by a 17-year-old, collided with a motorcycle, claiming the lives of two individuals. Allegations surfaced that the underage driver's father, a prominent city builder, orchestrated a scheme to manipulate the blood sample reports to absolve his son of any culpability.

Subsequent investigations revealed a complex web of deceit, implicating the accused trio in a conspiracy to fabricate evidence. The modus operandi involved substituting the teenager's blood sample with that of another individual, all orchestrated at the behest of the father through intermediaries.
Following their apprehension, a magisterial court remanded Dr. Taware, Dr. Halnor, and Atul Ghatkamble into police custody until May 30, pending further inquiries. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar disclosed the addition of several charges, including criminal conspiracy and bribery, to the ongoing accident case.
Critical to the investigation were the discrepancies between blood sample reports obtained from Sassoon hospital and another medical facility, both indicating no alcohol content. Additionally, DNA fingerprinting results failed to align with the blood sample collected at Sassoon hospital, prompting intensified scrutiny.
Further revelations emerged during interrogation, with Dr. Halnor confessing to receiving a substantial bribe from Dr. Taware for his role in tampering with the blood sample. The intricate collusion involved clandestine phone communications and the surreptitious disposal of incriminating evidence, underscoring the gravity of the offense.
Efforts to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy are ongoing, with authorities conducting thorough searches and seizing relevant evidence, including financial transactions. As the investigation progresses, the accused builders' involvement and the identification of additional accomplices remain key focal points.
Amid mounting evidence and revelations, the Pune Crime Branch continues its relentless pursuit of justice, committed to holding all parties accountable for their roles in perpetrating this egregious offense. As the case unfolds, the public awaits further developments in what has become a sobering reminder of the complexities inherent in the pursuit of truth and justice.
