Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) issued a plea on Tuesday, urging the public to limit their use of the Dubai Metro during peak hours. This call comes in the wake of widespread disruption caused by last week's unprecedented storms, which severely affected metro services across the city.
Following the adverse weather conditions, a significant number of stations on both the Green and Red lines of the metro network were rendered inoperable due to heavy flooding. The UAE witnessed its largest single day of rainfall in 75 years last Tuesday, necessitating a major ongoing clean-up operation.
In an effort to manage the situation, the RTA sent out notifications through its mobile app, advising commuters to plan their trips ahead and consider using alternative stations and public transport options until normal operations are restored.

While all 20 stations on the Green Line have resumed operations, the Red Line is still operating on a reduced schedule. Trains on the Red Line are not stopping at several stations, including Onpassive, Equiti, Mashreq, and Energy stations. Travellers boarding at Centrepoint station are advised to anticipate train switches at Business Bay and Al Khail stations, with replacement bus services available.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, commended the emirate's response to the extreme weather during a meeting of Dubai's Executive Council. He praised the efforts of government and emergency response teams, as well as the solidarity shown by the public during challenging times.
Sheikh Hamdan emphasized Dubai's resilience and ability to overcome challenges, directing government departments to develop comprehensive action plans for dealing with extreme weather events in the future. The emergency response involved over 25,000 personnel and volunteers, along with approximately 5,000 security patrols, emergency vehicles, tankers, buses, and water pump operators.
The coordinated efforts of authorities and the public reflect the unity and readiness of Dubai to face and overcome challenges, reinforcing the emirate's commitment to safety and preparedness in adverse circumstances.
