In the midst of a pro-Palestine demonstration, Professor Fohlin attempted to protect the student protester by urging the police to cease their actions. However, her intervention was met with force as an officer pushed her to the ground. Another officer swiftly joined in, assisting in restraining her. Despite her protests and insistence of her academic position, she was handcuffed with zip ties.

The protests, which initially ignited at Columbia University and then spread, have become a focal point of student activism. Over 200 individuals were arrested in subsequent protests in cities like Los Angeles, Boston, and Austin. In Austin, where a sizable crowd of around 2,000 gathered, tensions escalated as police resorted to using chemical irritants and tasers to disperse the demonstrators.
The overarching aim of these protests has been to express solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, where a significant number of casualties have been reported due to ongoing conflict with Israel. The death toll in Gaza has tragically surpassed 34,305, with both civilian and militant casualties. Israel initiated the conflict in response to a Hamas attack on October 7, resulting in a devastating toll on human lives and infrastructure in the region.
