The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) in Dubai recently unveiled a significant adjustment in working hours for employees across the private sector in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during the holy month of Ramadan. The announcement detailed a reduction of two working hours per day for all private sector employees throughout the duration of Ramadan, underscoring the government's commitment to accommodating religious observances while maintaining productivity and efficiency within the workforce.
According to the Ministry, this decision was made in consideration of the unique requirements and nature of work across various industries, allowing companies the flexibility to implement alternative work arrangements such as flexible or remote work patterns within the framework of the prescribed daily working hours during Ramadan. This move reflects a proactive approach by the UAE government to support the diverse needs of businesses and employees during this sacred period, fostering an environment that promotes both religious observance and professional responsibilities.
The announcement from MoHRE coincided with the earlier release of Ramadan working times for public sector employees by the UAE government. As per the official directive, federal government employees are slated to adhere to adjusted working hours during Ramadan. From Monday to Thursday, the designated working hours for federal government employees are set from 9 am to 2:30 pm, while on Fridays, the working hours are reduced to 9 am to 12 pm. This schedule aligns with the government's efforts to ensure uniformity and consistency in work hours across public sector entities, facilitating effective coordination and service delivery during the holy month.
Overall, these initiatives reflect the UAE government's proactive stance in addressing the needs of both public and private sector employees during Ramadan, a period of spiritual reflection and observance for Muslims worldwide. By providing clear guidelines and flexibility in work arrangements, the government aims to foster a conducive environment that promotes the well-being and productivity of the workforce while upholding the values of religious tolerance and cultural inclusivity. As Ramadan approaches, businesses and government entities in the UAE are poised to adapt to these adjusted working hours, contributing to a harmonious balance between professional commitments and religious observance across the nation.
