BLACKPINK star Jennie’s latest song, Like Jennie, has sparked a debate among Indian fans. Many believe that the track sounds quite similar to Rani’s Anthem, the background music for Alia Bhatt’s character in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, composed by Pritam. Over the past few days, social media has been buzzing with discussions, with some fans accusing Jennie’s song of copying the Bollywood track. Now, music composer Pritam has finally spoken about the matter.
Pritam Responds to the Allegations
On Friday, Pritam took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the controversy. He started by pointing out that the names "Rani" and "Jennie" sound similar, which might explain why one part of the song has a similar flow. He wrote, "A similar flow in one phrase doesn’t make it a copy. In music, minor similarities happen all the time—whether in rhyming, phrasing or even within the same genre. Instead of picking out tiny details, we should look at the bigger picture."

Pritam further explained that in today’s world, artists from different countries share platforms and ideas, making it more likely for such coincidences to happen. He also made it clear that no artist deliberately copies another’s work. "Creating a song takes a lot of effort. If an artist truly likes an idea, they can always collaborate instead of copying," he added.
‘Music Is About Creativity, Not Competition’
The composer also spoke about how music is a creative process influenced by different styles and inspirations. He wrote, "Music is all about creativity, unique artistic expression, and sometimes, pure coincidence—especially when artists exist on the same creative wavelength."
Instead of bringing artists down, Pritam urged people to appreciate their hard work. He ended his note by wishing Jennie success, saying, "Rather than pulling artists down, it’s better to celebrate their work. Wishing Jennie all the best for her new album."
The Social Media Debate
Jennie released a teaser of Like Jennie on Tuesday, ahead of its official release on March 7. As soon as it dropped, Alia Bhatt’s fans pointed out that the beats, thumping sounds, and vocals reminded them of Rani’s Anthem. This led to a heated discussion online, with many debating whether the similarity was just a coincidence or something more.
Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt was last seen in Jigra and will next appear in Love & War and Alpha.
