The prime suspect in a disturbing sexual assault case involving a fake National Cadet Corps (NCC) camp in Tamil Nadu has died by suicide. The suspect, identified as Sivaraman, was under investigation for orchestrating the fake camp where an eighth-grade girl was sexually assaulted and several other girls were allegedly abused.
Sivaraman was found to have ingested rat poison before his arrest on August 19. He was initially treated for a leg fracture at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Krishnagiri, which he sustained while attempting to evade arrest. Due to his deteriorating condition, he was later transferred to the Government Medical College Hospital in Salem, where he passed away on Friday.
Sivaraman was among 11 individuals, including school officials, who were arrested by the Bargur All Women Police in connection with the case. The fake NCC camp, attended by approximately 41 students—including 17 girls—was exposed after the assaulted girl reported the incident to her parents, who subsequently filed a complaint with the police.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) took suo motu cognizance of the incident following media reports. On August 21, the NCW directed the Director General of Police (DGP) in Chennai to ensure a thorough and prompt investigation into the assault.
The NCC has issued a statement clarifying that it did not organize any camp in the area and that the individuals involved in the incident had no affiliation with the NCC. The district administration echoed this statement, confirming that the NCC was not involved in the camp's organization.
In response to the incident, the district child protection unit has been providing counseling and psychological support to the affected girls and their families. The support aims to assist the victims in recovering from the trauma and ensure their well-being.
