The tragic incident unfolded in February, but the legal proceedings commenced this week, potentially subjecting the parents to a decade-long imprisonment. Anthony and Rachel Modrow, residents of the United States, were apprehended following the death of their nine-year-old daughter due to an asthma attack. As per reports from Metro, the couple allegedly neglected to summon emergency medical assistance for Amy Lynn Modrow and instead opted to run a bath for her when she experienced the asthma attack while visiting a friend's residence in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Allegations against the Modrows include one count of second-degree manslaughter, accusing them of gross negligence and endangerment leading to their daughter's demise. Court documents reveal that when Amy began struggling to breathe, she informed her friend's mother that she possessed her grandmother's inhaler. Despite this revelation, the friend's mother contacted Anthony, who then handed the phone to Rachel. In response, Rachel requested Amy's return home, declining the friend's offer to accompany Amy to a doctor.
Approximately three hours later, Amy's aunt contacted a family acquaintance, who discovered the dire state of Amy's health upon arriving at the Modrow residence. Observing Amy's blue-tinted skin, limited movement, and distress, the acquaintance immediately realized the gravity of the situation. While Rachel prepared a steam bath for Amy, Anthony failed to refill her inhaler, as recounted by the family acquaintance in court documents.
Recognizing the urgent need for medical intervention, the acquaintance swiftly removed Amy from the home and contacted emergency services at 10:40 a.m., marking three hours since the onset of Amy's asthma attack. Amy was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Centre, where medical professionals, unfortunately, could not detect a pulse. Tragically, Amy was declared brain dead due to oxygen deprivation.
Medical experts later emphasized that Amy would have had a substantially higher chance of survival with prompt medical attention, underscoring the severity of the situation. Asthma attacks demand immediate action, and experts advise seeking emergency assistance if symptoms persist beyond a few seconds, even after administering inhaler medication.
