Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a series of significant rewards for Arshad Nadeem in recognition of his remarkable achievement at the Paris Olympics 2024. Nadeem made history by winning Pakistan's first-ever gold medal in individual sports, capturing the javelin throw event with a record-breaking performance.
During a celebratory dinner in Islamabad, Prime Minister Sharif expressed profound admiration for Nadeem’s success and the pride he brought to the nation. The Prime Minister unveiled a generous reward package, including a cash prize of PKR 150 million (approximately INR 4.5 crore) as a testament to Nadeem’s extraordinary accomplishment. Additionally, Nadeem was honored with the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Pakistan’s second-highest civilian award, recognizing his contribution to the country's sports achievements.
Sharif’s tribute to Nadeem extended beyond monetary rewards. He announced the establishment of the Arshad Nadeem High-Performance Academy at Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad, aimed at nurturing future athletic talent. The Prime Minister also revealed the creation of a sports endowment fund worth PKR 1 billion, designed to support and advance the development of sports in Pakistan.

The celebration of Nadeem's victory continued with the announcement that he would serve as the chief guest at the upcoming Independence Day ceremony in Islamabad. Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar highlighted the widespread jubilation across Pakistan, noting that Nadeem’s return was marked by a water cannon salute at the airport.
Nadeem's historic win in Paris, where he set a new Olympic record with a throw of 92.97 meters, overshadowed the previous record of 90.57 meters set by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen in 2008. His performance also surpassed the season-best throw of 89.45 meters by Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra, who won the silver medal.
The Prime Minister’s announcement underscores the government's commitment to celebrating and supporting sports achievements. Sharif emphasized that Nadeem’s success demonstrates that with determination and perseverance, even limited resources and challenges can be overcome. He praised Nadeem’s journey and urged filmmakers to document his inspiring story from Mian Channu to Paris, further immortalizing his legacy.
Overall, the extensive rewards and honors reflect Pakistan’s pride in Nadeem’s achievements and a commitment to advancing the nation’s sports sector through enhanced support and infrastructure.
