A court ruling in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Wednesday saw the wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, granted permission to be transferred from house arrest to jail. This decision followed Bibi's challenge against her house arrest, which was imposed by the government citing security reasons. Since January, she had been detained at Khan's residence atop a hill in Islamabad, following their conviction on charges related to the alleged illegal sale of state gifts.
Bibi's lawyer, Naeem Panjutha, announced the court's decision on a social media platform, highlighting her appeal to be relocated to a proper jail facility. Acting on her legal representation, the Islamabad High Court directed authorities to transfer her to Adyala jail in Rawalpindi, a garrison city. This move places her in the same facility where Khan, the 70-year-old former cricket icon turned politician, is currently serving a 14-year sentence.

In response to the court's decision, Khan's party issued a statement confirming the relocation order. The statement also addressed Bibi's reported complaints regarding the quality of food provided by authorities at the house, which had been designated as a sub-jail. However, authorities have refuted these allegations.
The legal developments surrounding Bibi's transfer from house arrest to jail underscore the ongoing legal battles and political tensions in Pakistan. Bibi's case, coupled with Khan's imprisonment, has drawn significant attention both domestically and internationally, highlighting concerns about the rule of law and judicial independence in the country.
