Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) encourages its workers to help others through voluntary and charity work. In the first half of 2024, DEWA’s employees spent 14,528 hours helping people. Their hard work helped 4,763,973 people in the UAE and other countries. DEWA also started 19 new social projects, showing their commitment to balancing social, environmental, and economic goals.

"We follow the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE. We continue our journey of promoting volunteer work and creating a lasting positive impact. DEWA is committed to its social duties and supporting the cultural and humanitarian values of Dubai and the UAE," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA.

Helping others is important to DEWA, and the company has set up a clear plan for social responsibility. This plan is based on the UAE's values of giving and supporting the community. DEWA makes sure these values are part of everything it does.

“We give our employees the support they need to help the community and make Dubai a stronger and more united place. This reflects the kind, caring, and giving values of Emirati society,” said Al Tayer.

From 2013 to 2023, DEWA started 438 charity projects. Employees gave 232,973 hours of their time to help people in many different countries. In 2023, DEWA got a happiness score of 93.55% from the community, showing how much their work is appreciated.

To encourage more volunteer work, DEWA has a program called iVolunteer. This program helps employees learn about volunteer projects, what they involve, and the good results they bring. Employees can sign up for activities, track their hours, and earn points that can be turned into prizes. This program is also part of the Dubai Government Excellence program. DEWA also offers a Volunteer Diploma, which teaches employees how to manage volunteer projects and lead others in helping their communities.
One of DEWA’s important projects this year was the Meer Al Khair Ramadan campaign. This campaign, done in partnership with Al Ihsan Charitable Society in Ajman, collected 831 boxes of food to help families with low incomes during Ramadan.

For Zayed Humanitarian Work Day, DEWA launched a campaign where employees could take part in charity projects worldwide. One important project was building the Zayed Al Khair Well in Malawi, which will provide clean water to more than 10,000 people. Another project in Benin helped provide clean energy to a mosque, a school, and a clinic. DEWA employees also helped distribute Iftar meals in Dubai, working with the Watani Al Emarat Foundation during Ramadan.

DEWA also has a program where the children of its employees can volunteer for charity work. This program helps kids learn new skills while helping in DEWA’s community projects. Since the program began in 2017, around 100 children have volunteered, giving a total of 4,457 hours of service.
DEWA has also started the third year of the ‘For Generations to Come’ project, which gives school bags to children from low-income families. This year, DEWA aims to give 2,500 school bags to help kids do well in school. Last year, the project gave 1,700 bags to students. DEWA worked with other government and private organizations to make this project a success.

Each year, DEWA employees also help by buying school bags, school supplies, and tablets for students in need. This includes helping orphans and children with disabilities. This work is done in partnership with public welfare organizations.

Through all these efforts, DEWA’s employees are making a real difference in their community. They are showing how powerful it can be when people work together to help others. DEWA’s actions reflect the caring and strong values of kindness, unity, and sustainability that are important to both Dubai and the UAE.
