Over 2 Days: 1,244 Dubai Flights Cancelled; Terminal 1 Resumes Arrivals

Dubai International (DXB), the world's busiest international airport, grappled with the aftermath of adverse weather conditions, resulting in significant disruptions to flight operations. A total of 1,244 flights were cancelled, and 41 were diverted due to runway flooding caused by incessant rains. In response, airport authorities worked tirelessly to restore normal operations within 24 hours.

On Thursday morning, DXB partially resumed operations at Terminal 1 following the operational disruptions caused by the flooding. Collaborating with strategic partners and local authorities, airport officials aimed to expedite the recovery process and mitigate the crisis's impact.

Earlier advisories urged passengers to avoid Terminal 1 unless their flight departure was confirmed, as rebooking facilities were unavailable onsite. Dubai Airports emphasized the need for passengers to verify their flight status with airlines before heading to the airport due to ongoing delays and cancellations.

Despite the resumption of inbound flights at Terminal 1, disruptions persisted as a result of the unprecedented weather conditions. Passengers were advised to visit the terminal only with confirmed flight bookings to avoid unnecessary crowding.

Emirates airline extended the suspension of check-in services for departing passengers until 9 am on Thursday, citing operational challenges. Similarly, other airlines, including EgyptAir and SriLankan Airlines, were compelled to temporarily suspend flights until conditions improved.

The UAE experienced its heaviest rainfall in 75 years, leading to widespread flooding across residential areas in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and beyond. Consequently, the government encouraged private sector entities to facilitate remote work arrangements, while residents faced challenges navigating submerged roads and limited mobility.
