In the past few weeks, police in Pakistan have arrested many people after several attacks on KFC restaurants. These attacks happened because people were angry at the United States and its support for Israel’s actions in Gaza. More than 10 KFC restaurants were attacked by protesters in different cities, such as Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. The protesters damaged the restaurants and used sticks to attack.

Police arrested 178 people because of these attacks. One police officer said that a KFC worker was killed by gunmen at a restaurant near Lahore. The police are still trying to figure out if the killing was because of the protests or for another reason.

In Lahore, after two attacks, the police decided to add more security at 27 KFC stores. They are investigating who was behind these protests. In one case, 11 people were arrested, including a member of a religious group called Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP). However, TLP said they did not organize the protests and have only asked people to stop buying Israeli products.

KFC has been attacked in Pakistan for many years because it is seen as an American company. Other American brands have also faced boycotts in Pakistan because of the war in Gaza. The war started after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023. Since then, over 50,000 Palestinians have died, according to health officials.

In Pakistan, some local brands are becoming more popular as people avoid U.S. products. For example, Coca-Cola and Pepsi have lost market share. Earlier this month, religious leaders in Pakistan asked people to boycott products that support Israel or the U.S., but they also told people to protest peacefully without destroying anything.
