A tragic incident unfolded as a nurse, who was traveling from a private hospital in Uttarakhand to her residence near the Uttar Pradesh border, was brutally raped and murdered. The victim had left the hospital on the evening of July 30 and was captured on CCTV taking an e-rickshaw from Indra Chowk in Rudrapur. However, she never arrived at her rented accommodation on Kashipur Road in Bilaspur, Uttar Pradesh, where she lived with her 11-year-old daughter.
The following day, her sister reported her missing, but it was not until August 8 that the police discovered her body in an abandoned plot, approximately 1.5 kilometers from her home in Dibdiba village. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination, and a dedicated police team was assembled to investigate the crime.
The breakthrough came when police traced the victim's stolen mobile phone, which led them to Dharmendra, a daily wage laborer from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Dharmendra, who was apprehended in Rajasthan on Wednesday, had followed the victim after she was seen leaving the hospital. According to the police, he attacked her as she was about to enter her apartment building. In a horrifying act of violence, he raped and strangled her using her scarf before fleeing with her phone and ₹3,000 from her purse.

This brutal incident adds to a growing list of violent attacks on women, which has been further highlighted by a recent case involving a trainee doctor in Kolkata. The 31-year-old doctor's semi-naked body was discovered in a seminar hall at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, igniting nationwide outrage. This case has intensified demands for improved safety measures for medical personnel. Resident doctors across the country are now protesting and urging the government to pass the Central Healthcare Protection Act to ensure better protection for healthcare workers.
