Norway registered a commanding 4-1 victory against Estonia on Thursday, moving closer to qualifying for the World Cup for the first time since 1998. The win was marked by a remarkable performance from captain Erling Haaland, who not only scored twice but also played a vital leadership role.

After a goalless first half in Oslo, the home crowd grew frustrated and booed the team as they went to the tunnel. Haaland, showing calmness and focus, encouraged his teammates, assuring them that the breakthrough would come. Midfielder Morten Thorsby credited Haaland for sparking the turnaround with his composed halftime talk.

The second half began explosively, with Alexander Sorloth scoring twice in quick succession just five minutes after play resumed. Haaland then added two goals of his own, securing the 4-1 win. Estonia’s Robi Saarma scored a consolation goal in the 64th minute, but Norway’s dominance was clear throughout the match.

Defender Torbjorn Lysaker Heggem highlighted Haaland’s tactical instructions at halftime, including the need to deliver more crosses into the box. The team followed his advice, which immediately paid off as Norway created multiple scoring opportunities. Haaland’s tactical acumen and calm demeanor had a significant influence on the squad’s performance.

Thorsby noted that Haaland and injured midfielder Martin Odegaard have grown into key leadership roles for Norway. Their guidance on and off the field has helped the team maintain confidence and cohesion during high-pressure moments. Their influence is evident in how the players respond to tactical adjustments and maintain composure under pressure.

After the match, Haaland celebrated with his teammates by ordering dozens of cheeseburgers for the squad, showing his thoughtful leadership off the field. His actions reflected his ability to motivate the team and create a positive atmosphere, reinforcing morale as Norway eyes World Cup qualification.

With this win, Norway now leads Group I by three points over Italy and has a superior goal difference. The team is on the brink of securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup in North America, with their next match against Italy in Milan expected to be a decisive encounter. Haaland’s performance and leadership have been central to Norway’s success.
