A recent advisory has revealed that hackers, identified as Anadriel or APT45 by cybersecurity researchers, have been actively targeting and breaching computer systems at a wide range of defense and engineering firms. This group, which is linked to North Korea’s Reconnaissance General Bureau intelligence agency, has employed sophisticated cyber tactics to infiltrate these critical sectors.
The advisory detailed that APT45 used common phishing techniques and computer exploits to deceive officials at the targeted firms into inadvertently granting access to their internal systems. This method mirrors previous cyberattacks attributed to the group, which has a history of utilizing these techniques to access sensitive information.
The breaches are part of a broader pattern of cyber espionage aimed at gathering classified or proprietary information related to defense and engineering capabilities. The targeted firms span various industries, underscoring the extensive reach and operational scope of APT45.
