Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated Donald Trump on Tuesday following his claimed victory in the U.S. presidential election, calling it "history's greatest comeback" and a "new beginning" for the U.S.-Israel alliance.
Netanyahu's statement highlighted the significance of Trump’s victory, especially given the crucial role the United States plays as Israel’s primary military ally. The timing of the election, with conflicts ongoing in Gaza and Lebanon, makes the U.S.-Israel partnership even more pivotal for Israel’s security and future strategy in the region.

"Congratulations on history's greatest comeback! Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America. This is a huge victory!" Netanyahu said in a statement issued by his office.
Other Israeli officials also extended their congratulations. Israel Katz, who was appointed as the new defense minister on Tuesday, expressed his support on X (formerly Twitter). "Congratulations to President-elect @realDonaldTrump on his historic victory. Together, we'll strengthen the US-Israel alliance, bring back the hostages, and stand firm to defeat the axis of evil led by Iran," Katz said.
President Isaac Herzog also issued a statement, congratulating Trump on his win and looking forward to further strengthening the US-Israel ties. "Congratulations to President @realDonaldTrump on your historic return to the White House... I look forward to working with you to strengthen the ironclad bond between our peoples, to build a future of peace and security for the Middle East, and to uphold our shared values," Herzog said.
This public display of support for Trump comes amid a tense moment in Israeli politics. Netanyahu had recently sacked Israel’s defense minister, Yoav Gallant, following disagreements over the ongoing war with Hamas in Gaza. Gallant had called for a ceasefire and a hostage release deal, stances that put him at odds with Netanyahu, particularly over the broader strategy in Gaza and the potential for broader military actions in the region.
Gallant’s removal, which coincided with the U.S. election results, led to protests in Tel Aviv, where thousands took to the streets to express their anger against Netanyahu's leadership, especially concerning the ongoing hostage crisis in Gaza.
Gideon Saar, who has been appointed as the new foreign minister, also congratulated Trump, stating, "We welcome your strong and dedicated leadership as we work to build a better future of security and cooperation for the Middle East."
The statements from Netanyahu and other Israeli officials underscore the importance they place on strengthening the U.S.-Israel relationship, especially as Israel navigates the ongoing conflict in Gaza and broader regional instability.
