Nepali Sherpa Kami Rita Sets New Record with 30th Everest Summit Kathmandu Nepali Sherpa climber and guide Kami Rita Sherpa achieved a historic milestone on Wednesday morning, summiting Mount Everest for the 30th time, the most by any individual. The Department of Tourism officials confirmed that Kami Rita stood atop the world's highest peak at 7:49 am, breaking his own record set just nine days prior. Khimlal Gautam, Chief of the Expedition Monitoring and Facilitation Field Office, verified this accomplishment.
This marks Kami Rita's second ascent of the season, following his first on May 12. Born in Thame village in Solukhumbu, Nepal, Kami Rita has been climbing mountains for over two decades, starting his mountaineering career in 1992 as a support staff member for an Everest expedition. Over the years, he has participated in numerous expeditions, not only on Everest but also on other formidable peaks such as K2, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Manaslu.

Kami Rita currently serves as a Senior Guide at Seven Summit Treks. On Tuesday, he led a team of climbers to the top of Everest, demonstrating his leadership and expertise. He began this season's expedition from Kathmandu with a team of about 28 climbers, guiding them through the challenging conditions of Sagarmatha.
In the 71-year history of Everest climbing, Kami Rita holds the record for the highest number of ascents. Another notable Sherpa, Pasang Dawa from Solukhumbu, reached the summit for the 27th time last year but is taking a break from climbing this season.
The cost of climbing Everest is significant, with Nepal charging $11,000 for permits and overall expenses ranging from $40,000 to $90,000, depending on conditions. Despite these costs, nearly 7,000 mountaineers have scaled Everest since Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Edmund Hillary first reached the summit in May 1953.
Kami Rita's latest achievement further cements his legacy as one of the most accomplished climbers in the world, showcasing his enduring dedication and remarkable skill in high-altitude mountaineering.
