Mohammed bin Rashid Honors UAE AI Award Winners at Annual Meeting

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, together with His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, honoured the winners of the UAE AI Award at a ceremony held during the UAE Government Annual Meeting 2024 in Abu Dhabi. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the significant role Artificial Intelligence (AI) will play in revolutionizing business and public services, stating that the UAE is determined to lead in adopting AI tools to accelerate government work.

The award ceremony was attended by key figures, including His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. Other dignitaries included Crown Princes from various emirates and senior ministers and officials.

Launched in March 2024 by the UAE Council for Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain, the UAE AI Award aims to inspire government entities to embrace advanced AI applications and establish a national benchmark for AI utilization. The award encourages the development of innovative solutions that will shape the future of digital transformation, collaboration, and competitive growth.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was honoured in the Service Excellence category for its Smart Mission project, an AI-driven consular service system that requires no human intervention. The project was launched at the UAE Embassy in South Korea, with plans to expand to five more missions in the coming months. In the Operational Efficiency category, DP World received recognition for its 'Tanbeeh' platform, an AI solution designed to enhance emergency response capabilities, safety compliance, and traffic prediction. The Integrated Transport Centre of Abu Dhabi was awarded in the Decision-Making category for its STEAM+ system, which processes vast amounts of data to optimize transportation strategies in the emirate. 

The Emirati AI Solutions award went to the Advanced Technology Research Council of Abu Dhabi for its Falcon language model, which has propelled initiatives like RAZI and LAW71, marking a milestone for the Arab world in AI development. Falcon is considered the first generative language model from the region to rival global tech players like Meta, Google, and OpenAI.

With more than 225 submissions from 76 government entities and 44 private organizations, the UAE AI Award has proven to be a key platform in fostering innovation and strengthening the UAE’s competitive position in the global AI landscape. The rigorous evaluation of the nominations focused on innovation, ethics, scalability, and potential impact, ensuring that the winners represent the cutting edge of AI advancements.
