Mohammed bin Rashid Greenlights AED 128 Billion Airport Terminal

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, reviewed the strategic plan of the Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects and approved designs for the new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport, which will be the largest in the world when fully operational. Set to be built at a cost of AED 128 billion, the new terminal will ultimately enable the airport to handle a passenger capacity of 260 million annually. 

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed's visit to the Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects, accompanied by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, marked the approval of the designs for the new passenger terminal.

During the visit, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the significance of the new terminal, stating that it will significantly enhance Dubai's aviation capabilities and serve as a crucial element in Dubai's aviation strategy. He highlighted that the new terminal will be five times the size of the current Dubai International Airport and will feature state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure to accommodate the growing demand for air travel.

Sheikh Mohammed also underscored the importance of the airport in Dubai's overall development, noting that it will serve as a catalyst for economic growth and create new opportunities for businesses and residents. He expressed confidence that the new terminal will further solidify Dubai's position as a global aviation hub and contribute to the city's continued success.

The visit also saw the review of the master plan for the Airport of the Future, which will emerge as the world's largest airport upon completion. Covering an expansive area of 70 square kilometers, the airport will have an ultimate capacity exceeding 260 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of cargo per annum.

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group, commented on the commencement of the design and construction process for the new airport at Jebel Ali. He highlighted the airport's strategic importance in supporting Dubai's aviation sector and facilitating future growth.

Addressing the anticipated growth in Dubai's aviation sector, Sheikh Ahmed emphasized that the new airport will be over five times the size of Dubai International Airport and will provide cutting-edge technologies and passenger facilities. He highlighted the airport's role in supporting the ambitious plans of Hub Airline and its contribution to mitigating environmental emissions.

The development of the new airport was also lauded for its economic benefits, with His Excellency Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation, highlighting its role in driving Dubai's economy and creating opportunities for businesses and residents.

In a discussion on the project's sidelines, Her Excellency Suzanne Al Anani, CEO of Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects, emphasized Dubai's commitment to innovation and sustainability in airport development. She highlighted the project's focus on reinventing the passenger experience and reducing carbon emissions through efficient public transportation links.
