A Minneapolis police officer was tragically killed on Thursday in what authorities described as an ambush while responding to a call for assistance. Officer Jamal Mitchell was on duty when he noticed individuals in need of aid while en route to a shooting incident. Upon stopping to help, one of the individuals shot Officer Mitchell, leading to his untimely death.
The chaotic situation unfolded across two crime scenes, occurring just two blocks apart. Another officer and a firefighter sustained less serious injuries during the incident.
Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Superintendent Drew Evans characterized the attack as an ambush, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
