Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad was honored with the prestigious Esri SAG Award for excellence in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at a ceremony held in Cairo. The award, presented by Esri, a global leader in GIS technology, recognized the Ministry of Environment’s outstanding efforts in applying GIS to safeguard and manage Egypt's biodiversity.

The ceremony was attended by key figures including Ali Abu Senah, CEO of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA), Hashem Hemida, CEO of Esri North Africa, and other senior officials. This event celebrated Esri partners worldwide who have successfully implemented GIS to tackle complex environmental challenges and find innovative solutions.
In her speech, Minister Yasmine Fouad highlighted the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to advancing digital transformation and applying modern technologies to environmental management. She emphasized the Ministry’s efforts to align with the vision of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in ensuring environmental protection and the sustainable use of resources.
Fouad explained that the award recognized the Ministry’s successful implementation of a system to monitor and document biodiversity in Egypt’s nature reserves, a critical initiative for preserving the country’s diverse ecosystems. Additionally, she spotlighted other significant environmental monitoring systems developed by the Ministry, such as those that track air and water quality.
“The use of modern digital technologies is essential for enhancing the efficiency of environmental monitoring and ensuring better decision-making,” Fouad remarked. She expressed her appreciation for the Ministry’s team and Esri for their continued contributions to this important work.
