Mike Pence Won't Support Trump for 2024 Presidency, Declares

Former US Vice President Mike Pence made it clear on Friday that he won't be supporting Donald Trump's bid for a second term in the White House. In an interview with Fox News, Pence stated, "It should come as no surprise that I will not be endorsing Donald Trump this year." While some US media outlets labeled this announcement as "startling" and a "bombshell," the reality is that deep divisions have emerged between the two men since leaving office, making an endorsement unexpected.

The rift between Pence and Trump widened notably after the 2020 election when Trump pressured Pence to assist in overturning his defeat to Joe Biden. Trump's attacks on Pence via social media escalated when Pence refused to comply with the scheme. This strained relationship reached a critical point when Trump directed his supporters to storm the Capitol on January 6, 2021, leading to Pence and his family being endangered. Pence criticized Trump's actions on that day as "reckless."

Despite his decision not to endorse Trump, Pence did not offer support to any alternative candidates and expressed his unwillingness to vote for Biden, the Democratic nominee. Pence had been a loyal supporter of Trump throughout his tenure, but the events of January 6th led to a significant rift between them. Additionally, Pence faced personal challenges post-office, including an FBI search of his home related to mishandled classified documents and a subpoena to testify in the federal investigation into the Capitol riot, which he resisted.

Despite these challenges, Pence defended the achievements of the Trump administration during his interview, stating that he was "incredibly proud" of its conservative record. However, he also highlighted the differences between himself and Trump on various issues during his own presidential campaign.
