In Manila, an incident unfolded aboard a Royal Air Philippines flight, specifically Flight RW602, en route from Boracay to Shanghai. On a late Tuesday evening, the aircraft had to make an emergency landing at Hong Kong International Airport due to an onboard fire caused by the explosion of a power bank.
Local media reported that the explosion resulted in the cabin being filled with smoke, prompting the pilots to take immediate action. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from the incident. A video shared online captured the aftermath, revealing smoke emerging from the front section of the plane and spreading rapidly throughout the cabin. Passengers, alarmed by the situation, moved towards the rear of the aircraft to escape the smoke.
In response to the emergency, the flight's captain decided to execute an emergency landing at Hong Kong International Airport. The situation was successfully resolved within approximately an hour. After the incident, passengers were able to continue their journey, reaching Shanghai around 12:30 am on Tuesday. However, the flight experienced a delay of three hours.
Details regarding the total number of passengers on board at the time of the explosion have not been disclosed. The cause behind the power bank explosion, a device prohibited in checked luggage according to regulations, remains undetermined. Despite the unsettling incident, the swift actions of the crew ensured the safety of the passengers, and the flight eventually resumed its course to Shanghai.
